We have much to be thankful for..

As I headed out on vacation yesterday to what was considered an “island paradise” I have found many lessons to be learned. Many of the so-called “paradises” outside of the US have issues and come with third-world disadvantages.

Most things we take for granted in the US are undependable, can be few and far between and can also make life in “paradise” somewhat challenging at times in other countries.

One can deal with no internet. But running water is a necessity of life and when without it one realizes the toilet can’t even be flushed. Ironically the perceived poor service I ranted most about in the US, my Blackberry provider, ended up being the most dependable service I’ve had since I’ve been away.

So as we go into this Labor Day weekend, a high-five salute to the entrepreneurs, capitalists and hard workers who have made the US the best country in the world. And still will be. Forever.

Thank you.

Obama, I hope you are reading this post.

On vacation

Will be on vacation for one week. Thanks for your interest.

OFA/DCCC claim 568 thousand contacts last weekend

For those of you who have given me a “pat on the head” and told me “don’t worry about Mr. Obama’s GOTV/community organizing group, Organizing for America (OFA), they’ve never accomplished anything” please read on. So if one considers “electing a president” nothing then than you are correct. However I am going to give you a refresher course.

We have this. This is how OFA tossed Blanche Lincoln before the Heathcare vote. Note the 214% “total commits.” Meaning OFA had 114% MORE calls, canvassing successes, etc., etc., etc. FYI OFA had a national goal of 300K calls, doors knocked on, visits to congressional offices in October of 2009 for healthcare. They surpassed that. It was 330,000.

OFA altered vote commits AK

OFA tossed Scott Brown on the Wall Street Reform bill.

This is OFA’s new initiative. Launched in June 2010 with a $50 million tab.

raise your vote

I have been watching closely. OFA is showing up at naturalization ceremonies, city festivals, state and county fairs to register voters. Even registering people in barber chairs. Why aren’t we doing that? Anyone who can answer that question gets a free lottery ticket.

OFA had a new initiative this past weekend. To canvass, phone bank, make contacts and register. Their goal was 400K contacts. Well, I am sorry to say, OFA you didn’t meet your goal. Instead of only 400K contacts, registrants, canvassing commits, you guys only had only 368,000. Shame on you! Fell short, you guys. What is up with that? Is Obama failing at his GOTV effort?

Here is Lynda Tran, the National Press Secretary for OFA.

The above link takes you to the OFA website, where they do indeed claim 368,000 for Dems the past weekend. And for those who beg the question, no, I don’t believe they are inflating their numbers. With the amount of dollars expended and their massive GOTV effort I have no doubt their claims are correct. FYI here is a video of national coverage of this GOTV effort.

And it wasn’t just OFA “door knocking” this weekend. The DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) also had their “boots on the ground.” They claim for themselves an additional 200,000 doors-knocked on for support of their candidates.

DCCC canvassing

And this from the Libs’ Bible, Daily Kos:

DCCC canvassing Kos

So bottom line is, OFA and DCCC claim 568,000 contacts over the weekend. Even if they accomplished only half of this it is still a formidable force.

And what is the RNC/GOP/NRSC/NRCC doing to counter-act this? NADA.The GOP/RNC has been AWOL. They plan absolutely no grass roots GOTV initiative this year. They claim they beat the Dems on twitter, but so what? Is that going to counteract what I’ve shown you above?  They do have this new volunteer website which I’ve looked at, but it isn’t much.  If they happen to get their *sses out of the sand and actually do something to counteract OFA, please let me know and I’ll write it up.  If you remember GWB won the 2000 election by a measly 700? votes?

And I must say this. As an infiltrator of OFA three times: in one of their meetings, attending an on-line webinar and on a phone conference. These people are scripted and well-rehearsed. They are trained to get over their fear of personal contact. No, not zombies. Very gregarious, friendly and outgoing. They are provided information on issues and how to answer questions from people they contact, both in person and over the phone. This adds to their ability to “turn” a good number of people who may otherwise resist their liberal/progressive platform and immensely to OFA’s success at not only community organizing but their GOTV initiative which makes them even a more formidable opponent.

Bottom line is the right needs a massive GOTV effort to counteract what the left is doing. Obama’s elite Republican Democrat Guards have been trained well at this. They have the money, time, and impetus to put out the effort. Let’s roll!!

Dems “fractured” on whether or not to extend Bush tax cuts

There has been much heated debate recently on whether or not the Bush tax cuts, set to expire at the end of this year, should or should not be extended. Within this debate are a myriad of suggestions and ideas set forth by Republicans, Democrats, the administration and economists.

Mr. Obama and Democrat Congressional leaders want to extend the Bush tax cuts to those earning $200,000 and families with incomes above $250,000. According to The Hill, the Dems are split on this issue after hearing from Mark Zandi of Moody Economics, his recommendation the tax cuts should be extended for not only the middle class, but the wealthy as well, to avoid a double-dip recession.

But even if the tax cuts are extended only for the middle class, this would mean the Democrats are admitting  George Bush “got it right.” Democratic strategist Doug Schoen made this statement:

“If the whole campaign is based on blasting Bush, and Bush for giving away too much to the rich, it’s pretty hard to say that Bush was right [about the middle-class tax cuts],”

Zandi has offered a compromise of extending the cuts to all, including the top tax brackets, and then phasing in an increase in 2012 for the top tax brackets. This is assuming the economy continues to improve. Zandi went further in an op-ed in the New York Times stating this is “a tax cut we can afford.” With unemployment still predicted to hover around 10% for awhile, he feels adding a tax on the wealthy will only impair job growth. On the other hand he feels the Republicans’ proposal for making the tax cuts permanent for all would be taking a financial gamble on the economy’s future. Here is former GOP presidential candidate and senator Fred Thompson urging Congress and Mr.Obama to extend the Bush tax cuts enacted in 2001 to help jump-start the economy post 9/11.

Senator Thompson states the capital gains tax will increase by 30%, taxes on dividends will more than double and income tax rates could be raised by up to as much as 10%. He tells us Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernacke has urged no tax increases because the economy is still too fragile.

Vice President Joe Biden, taking the place of Mr. Obama while he was vacationing at Martha’s Vineyard says the Whitehouse will “fight like the devil” to maintain the current cuts for the middle class while letting those for the wealthy  expire. He also warns us it is going to be:

“one of the big fights we’re going to have”

when Congress returns from its August recess. However, not all Democrats agree with Mr. Biden. Rep. Gerald Connolly, (D-Va) represents one of the wealthiest districts in Virginia. He believes repealing tax cuts for the wealthy will have devastating consequences both for economic growth and for “political reasons” as well.

“Sometimes we forget how we became the majority. We did it by winning some affluent districts,”

Expect a lot of heated debate on this from both sides when Congress comes back into session next week. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, both in tough re-election campaigns, are reported to want a vote before the November election.
