As I headed out on vacation yesterday to what was considered an “island paradise” I have found many lessons to be learned. Many of the so-called “paradises” outside of the US have issues and come with third-world disadvantages.
Most things we take for granted in the US are undependable, can be few and far between and can also make life in “paradise” somewhat challenging at times in other countries.
One can deal with no internet. But running water is a necessity of life and when without it one realizes the toilet can’t even be flushed. Ironically the perceived poor service I ranted most about in the US, my Blackberry provider, ended up being the most dependable service I’ve had since I’ve been away.
So as we go into this Labor Day weekend, a high-five salute to the entrepreneurs, capitalists and hard workers who have made the US the best country in the world. And still will be. Forever.
Thank you.
Obama, I hope you are reading this post.
