Obama clueless he’ll be flying into same Ohio NG base he targeted for closure

Yes, he’s coming BACKKK…. to Ohio again. Tomorrow, Wednesday August 1 for another campaign stop.  Obama will be flying Air Force 1 into Mansfield Lahm Airport where the 179th unit of the Air National Guard is stationed. This base is the home of the C-27J program however Obama’s proposed cuts in the military budget has targeted this base for closure.

In addition to the loss of our national security, the threat to close the base will result in the loss of about 1,000 jobs. In another stunning moment of incompetence, denial or both White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was clueless when a reporter questioned him about this:

As usual Carney fumbled and stumbled around evading the question. Even liberal Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is against the closure of the base. From his website:

“Our message to [Air Force]  Secretary Donley was clear: eliminating the C-27J program is pennywise but pound foolish. In addition to affecting roughly 800 jobs in Mansfield, eliminating the C-27J program would affect domestic relief efforts and shift Air Force operations to cargo planes that are more expensive to operate,”

And Republican Ohio Senator Rob Portman echoed Sen. Brown’s concerns:

“If President Obama has his way, his Air Force One arrival would be one of the final flights into Mansfield-Lahm Airport. Despite numerous reports highlighting the value of the 179th, and the critical capability they and their C-27J aircraft provide to our deployed soldiers, President Obama wants to do away with the mission for the 800 Guardsmen at the base. Time and again, these Ohioans have answered the call to serve. They must be pretty frustrated to see the president drop into town, ignore their award-winning work, and fail to give them a straight answer about his plans to end their important mission,” Portman said Monday.

The C-27Js will all be lined up to greet Obama tomorrow as they should be. The 179th announced in May it has seen three prestigious honors. I’m sure Obama and Jay Carney are “clueless” about this as well.

Radical environmental groups file suit against Dept of Interior to stop Shell’s Alaska drilling

Image at the right is from Greenpeace’s website.

Last week I reported the radical environmental group Greenpeace was on their way to Shell’s drilling area in northern Alaska with submersibles and an ice ship to protest the beginning of their drilling.

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski (R) and Rep. Doc Hastings (R-WA) sent letters to NOAA and BSEE requesting assurances from these federal agencies Shell’s interests, and the interests of any group, person or entity involved in the drilling operation be protected.

Also of interest is that Greenpeace’s Netherlands “chief” Sylvia Borren staged a hoax in which she “claimed” she was Shell’s new CEO and had immediately banned Shell’s drilling in Alaska.

Last May Shell was issued a restraining order effective until the end of October against Greenpeace. Greenpeace’s ice-class ship the Esperanza, interestingly enough with a Netherlands flag, arrived in Seattle as Shell was preparing for its trip to the drilling site. Greenpeace had boarded one of Shell’s rigs back in February as it was leaving New Zealand and  according to the order Greenpeace must stay 200 miles from shore.

But Greenpeace is determined. On July 10 of this year they along with other radical environmental groups Alaska Wilderness League, Center for Biological Diversity, National Audubon Society, Natural Resources Defense Council, Ocean Conservancy, Oceana, Pacific Environment, and the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit in U.S. Federal District Court in Anchorage to stop the drilling.

But what is interesting and outrageous is that Shell is not named a party to the lawsuit. Instead the suit is against the U.S. Dept. of Interior and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

You see, our illustrious former president Jimmy Carter in 1980 signed a little-known law by the name of “Equal Access of Justice Act” which allows groups such as these to game the system and create revenue paid for by the taxpayers. When these groups sue the federal government, not only must the taxpayers foot the bill for the defense but they must also pay the plaintiff’s costs as well. Nice, isn’t it?

Even though the AP is saying the suit doesn’t seek to stop Shell’s intended drilling this year but in years to come, I skimmed the pleadings and couldn’t find that tidbit under their requested “reliefs” but then I am not an attorney.

Kind of ironic, the Obama administration and the Dept. of the Interior have had it out for the fossil fuel industry in this country and have tried to stall or stop coal, natural gas, oil and uranium mining. And now they are being sued for not destroying enough.

Mitt Romney wows Bowling Green Ohio with a knock out rally

The sleepy university town of  Bowling Green Ohio, where during the school year the students outnumber the residents, was awakened this afternoon by a mighty roar. And that “mighty roar” came from presumptive Republican candidate Governor Mitt Romney.

I had the privilege of attending this rally at the Bowling Green Community Center to a standing room only crowd and all pictures here are my own. Ohio Governor John Kasich introduced Governor Romney and they received standing ovations with the roar of the crowd:

Governor Romney then took center stage where he outlined what he considered the five most important priorities he would undertake

when I become the next President of the United States.

They are:

  • making the U.S. energy independent by making use of our own resources in America, including drilling for oil and mining for coal
  • working on a more equal trade partnership with other countries
  • balance the budget
  • get teachers’ unions behind us, and students ahead
  • restoring economic freedom by making the business environment more friendly

He was relaxed, fired up and worked the crowd easily. This is an impressive man who has turned into a real fireball:

We saw a dramatic change in Romney’s campaigning this day, as he vowed to take on Obama’s “you didn’t make that business” remark. My favorite poster at the rally was the one below:

Romney knocked it out of the ball park today. For those wishing to hear his entire speech and the question & answer period afterwards, Right Scoop has it.

Obama wraps up another visit to Ohio with attacks on Romney

Obama has made so many visits to Ohio I am considering renting him a room, if nothing more than to save the taxpayers some money. After moving through the northern part of this state 10 days ago, today he was in Cincinnati where he continued his negative campaign by attacking Mitt Romney despite the hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs Obama’s policies have sent overseas. While Obama panders to Ohio he’ll conveniently leave out that even Ohio’s Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown has criticized himfor breaking his promises to crack down on China’s unfair trade practices and sending billions of taxpayer dollars overseas. Catherine Gatewood, Romney’s Ohio Victory Communications Director is quoted as saying:

“President Obama is so busy churning out misleading ads and pandering to voters in Ohio that he forgot to talk about his record of sending hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of our taxpayer dollars overseas to places like China. With friends like Washington-insider Senator Sherrod Brown who have criticized Obama for breaking his promises on China, who needs enemies?”

And Ms. Gatewood tweetedthis picture:

Obama had this to say, more of the same old rhetoric and broken promises:

“I want to give tax breaks to companies that are investing right here in Ohio, that are investing in Cincinnati,” Obama told a supportive crowd in the first official town hall event of his re-election campaign. “I want to give incentives to companies that are investing in you, the American people, to create American jobs making American goods … That’s why I’m running for president of the United States”

One thing Obama does hold sacred though, is his relationship with his Chicago barber who he flies in to D.C. to cut his hair. One man in the crowd offered to cut his hair, but he rebuffed him saying “a man and his barber is a strong connection.” I wish he felt that way about America.
