Just as the defeat of 300 Spartans at Thermopylae spurred the rest of the Spartan state to go on and defeat Xerxes and the Persian army, so will the passage of the Health Care monstrosity yesterday spur Patriots to ultimate victory, because this is not an ending point,
The fight has just begun.
I have several Brasilian twitter friends. One of them has repeatedly said to me:
For the last 15 months I have slowly watched the United States fall into socialism. How can you let this happen? Why aren’t you fighting? You have to educate the people in your country about the dangers of socialism. We Conservatives in Brasil count on America to be a stabilizing force so that Brasil does not go the way of Venezuela or Bolivia.
Yes, she is a little naive but has hit the nail on the head. I have responded to her that we are certainly doing our best and in spite of our best efforts we are hammered at every turn.
Yesterday’s House marathon session and 219-212 vote was hardly a mandate for Health Care but was full of the drama suspense movies are made of. For those of you who were riveted to your television or computer screen, most will agree the proceedings in the House were a sham. The “cluelessness” of Jesse Jackson Jr., (D-IL) as first presiding chair, and later the belligerence of David Obey (D-WI) made we want to throw a brick at my computer. But then I wouldn’t be able to write this post. Some of us felt it would be a real nail-biter, however the final “nail in the coffin” was the 4pm announcement by Bart “Judas” Stupak (D-MI) that he had reached an agreement with The One, who would sign an Executive Order after the bill was passed ordering the abortion language stripped.

Erick Erickson of RedState has a great idea: Let’s Not Let Stupak Go Without a Judas Like Parting Gift and send him 100 pieces of silver. But I think Judas only got 30…
And as far as that “Executive Order” goes, who can forget Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI #5) screaming:
And for those of you who never took Civics or don’t remember it, according to the US Constitution Art. I Section 7:
Every Bill which shall [emphasis mine] have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate…
The key word here is shall. HR #3590 never passed the Senate. Two months ago we were ecstatic over the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts, shouting “41st vote! 41st vote!”
But all the campaigning we did to put him office, and the work we did to ensure he was seated in a timely manner, was for naught as the Dems changed the rules, trashed the Constitution, and never allowed a vote in the Senate. Instead Pelosi and her cabal schemed with Reid and Obama to use a vote in the House to pass the Senate bill. Not the way it’s supposed to work. But the Dems don’t care. Confirmed by Alcee Hastings:
Yea. We already knew that. But Minority House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) gave this defiant rebuttal:
So where do we go from here? I see many petitions up today advocating the repeal of #HR3590. However, this ain’t gonna be easy. Even if the GOP succeeds in retaking the House and Senate in November, and repeals the bill; we must remember Obama will still be in the Oval Office and most certainly will veto it. Then it would have to go back to the House and Senate and need a 2/3 majority of Congress to override him.
I think our best bet is something that is already in the works by many states: the Principles of ‘98. According to Wikipedia:
The Principles of ‘98 refer to the US American political position that individual states of the United States could judge the constitutionality of central government laws and decrees, and could refuse to enforce laws deemed unconstitutional. This refusal to enforce unconstitutional laws is generally referred to as “nullification,” but has also been expressed as “interposition,” i.e. the states’ right to “interpose” between the federal government and the people of the state.
Up to 39 states’ Attorneys General have been reported to be considering this.
Yes, we are wounded, bloodied and bruised. But unlike those 300 Spartans, our wounds are not fatal. We must fight on and win the ultimate battle against those who wish to invoke Tyranny on America. Our battle cry will be heard across America. And round the world.
