New chart showing the failure of the stimulus

Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the signing of the stimulus.

From the Republican Study Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) Chair, comes this chart and commentary  which shows the stimulus has been an abject failure:

Where are the jobs

The numbers come directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Democrats said their costly plan ($1.2 trillion, including interest) would “save or create” up to 4 million jobs and bring the unemployment rate down to about 6% today. The unemployment rate has not fallen below 8% at any point in the last 36 months. Furthermore, the official unemployment rate does not actually count unemployed people who have given up looking for work.

The above chart shows the “labor force participation rate.” This statistic represents the share of working-age Americans who are either employed or unemployed but looking for work. It is not a pretty picture. Only 63.7% of working-age Americans are currently in the workforce – the lowest in almost 29 years!

To put it another way, 36.3% of working-age Americans do not have a job and are not even looking.

After 3 years of failure, it’s time to try something that will work. Let’s ramp up energy production. Let’s cut away government red tape that slows down job creation. And let’s design new tax code that is simpler, flatter, and fairer. Let’s pass the Jobs Through Growth Act, and create jobs by growing the economy – not the government.

House Natural Resources Committee Jobs Watch on coal

Posted by Neal Kirby on February 06, 2012

House Natural Resources Committee Republicans are committed to putting Americans back to work by enacting policies that embrace America’s abundant natural resources to help create jobs and grow our economy.
Meet Freshman Committee Member Bill Johnson from Ohio’s Sixth Congressional District. Ohio is home to several coal-fired power plants, which provide hundreds of good-paying jobs. However, due to the Obama Administration’s proposed rewrite of the Stream Buffer Zone rule, tens of thousands of direct and indirect coal jobs are at jeopardy. Coal production could be cut in half and cause electricity rates to skyrocket, due to this one overreaching rule. Watch Rep. Johnson explain the affect this Obama Administration rule could have on jobs in his district:

Many jobs are at stake here. Without coal, how will the Volt owners charge their batteries?

While Obama only wants to take credit, Kasich surprises

Many voters have become dissatisfied with their leaders going out of their way to seek credit for their success. In a way, that’s been one of the criticisms of those who find themselves in the Tea Party – a disappointment in politics as usual and the unabashed desire of politicians to obtain credit over delivering substance.

Well, if that’s the case, those folks can maybe be a little inspired by the Governor’s response to a reporter’s question about whether he should be upset about the President trying to take credit for Ohio’s emerging economic recovery:

In the four years prior to him coming into office, only Michigan and California lost more jobs than Ohio. Ohio was  nearly 400,000 down.

And now, since January of ’11, Ohio is 9th in the nation and tops in the Midwest in job growth.

We have to thank job creators first, but they are building and growing in Ohio in part because of a newfound confidence and stability at the state level. In dealing with the largest budget shortfall in state history, the Governor reformed and reduced government to make it more effective and efficient for taxpayers. And it shows. When S&P downgraded the United States, Italy, Greece and so on and so on, S&P decided to upgrade Ohio’s outlook from negative to stable. That means things are finally back on track – and that means more jobs

Speaker Boehner’s Republican address focuses on new *jobs act*

An Inside Look at the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

This week the House will vote on the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act, a bill to help create thousands of new American jobs while helping families struggling with the consequences of President Obama’s failed economic policies. In the Weekly Republican Address, Speaker Boehner says the bill contains “several bipartisan jobs initiatives” – including the Keystone XL energy project – and “extends payroll tax relief, extends and reforms unemployment benefits, and cuts government spending.

This one, we don’t have to *pass, before we know what is in it.*

The “Forgotten 15″ GOP jobs bills

Remember Obama saying “hurry up, we have to pass this jobs bill NOW?

Apparently his internet is and has been broken because there are 15 bills introduced by the House GOP languishing and awaiting Senate action. In the “spirit of James Bond” @GOPLabs does a great tongue-in-cheek video to remind the American people that the House GOP has acted: 15 times and has come up with its own plan to create jobs:

And President Obama has “claimed” we are “better off” then we were before he took office. In the video below House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) begs to differ:

Are you kidding me? Why don’t you ask the 14 million Americans who are out of work whether they are better off than they were 4 years ago?

Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH) says Obama claims he hasn’t seen a jobs bill from them.

“Well here it is. It’s been available since May” says Johnson. “And it’s available at jobs. gop.gov. Now maybe the White House is having an internet problem.”

FYI at the end of the first video is a listing of the “15 forgotten” House GOP Jobs Bills.
