House Natural Resources Committee Jobs Watch on coal

Posted by Neal Kirby on February 06, 2012

House Natural Resources Committee Republicans are committed to putting Americans back to work by enacting policies that embrace America’s abundant natural resources to help create jobs and grow our economy.
Meet Freshman Committee Member Bill Johnson from Ohio’s Sixth Congressional District. Ohio is home to several coal-fired power plants, which provide hundreds of good-paying jobs. However, due to the Obama Administration’s proposed rewrite of the Stream Buffer Zone rule, tens of thousands of direct and indirect coal jobs are at jeopardy. Coal production could be cut in half and cause electricity rates to skyrocket, due to this one overreaching rule. Watch Rep. Johnson explain the affect this Obama Administration rule could have on jobs in his district:

Many jobs are at stake here. Without coal, how will the Volt owners charge their batteries?

Rep. Jim Jordan addresses CPAC 2012

At CPAC yesterday Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) encouraged conservatives to fight for what’s right, especially when it looks like the odds are stacked against us.

“Good things don’t just happen. If you want to accomplish anything of meaning, anything of significance, anything of lasting value, it takes work. It takes effort. It takes sacrifice. And it takes, most importantly, that willingness to get off the sidelines, get in the game, and make a difference.”

“The Israelites camped against the Philistines, and every day the Philistine giant would walk out and issue the challenge, ‘Who will fight Goliath?’ The Israelites’ response was, ‘He’s so big we could never defeat him.’ But David’s response was, ‘He’s so big I can’t miss!’ That’s the American attitude. That’s the spirit we need.”

“Forget the conventional wisdom. Last summer, we were in this fight on the debt ceiling. If we had listened to the conventional wisdom, we would have never had Cut, Cap and Balance pass the House of Representatives. We would have never made the headway that we did.”

“Every so often there’s a generation that’s called on in this country to step forward and save the nation. I think we’re at one of those moments. So thank you for being willing to do that. God Bless you and God Bless America.”

RNC reaction to Biden’s Ohio visit

As Vice President Biden visits Ohio, President Obama’s blatant overreach of the First Amendment is picking up more and more steam with Independents, Democrats and Republicans, who are ALL voicing their opposition. Between this, the economy, Ohio ranking 8th to last out of all states in economic confidence, or the fact that the administrations signature achievement, Obamacare, was rejected in all 88 Ohio Counties, it seems as though Obama has a BIG problem in Ohio.

Below is a quote from the Republican National Committee:

“The Obama administration has too many problems to count in Ohio and that’s exactly why you see Vice President Biden here today. It’s too bad another campaign speech won’t change Barack Obama’s blatant overreach on the First Amendment or the fact that Obamacare was resoundingly rejected in every Ohio county. Ohioans are ready for a real leader, not one with a laundry list of broken promises and failed economic policies.” – Ryan Tronovitch, RNC Spokesman

Obama Admin Struggles To Contain Uproar Over First Amendment Overreach

“The White House struggled Wednesday to contain the growing uproar over its birth-control mandate, with Democrats peeling off one by one in what has become an increasingly divisive election-year controversy. Pressure to roll back the new contraception policy mounted quickly as the day wore on, driven by divisions among Democrats, mixed messages from President Obama’s advisers and a constant drumbeat from the GOP. ‘It’s becoming a thorny problem for the White House and it appears to only be getting worse,’ said one Democratic strategist.” (Amie Parnes and Sam Baker, “Obama administration struggles to contain uproar over birth-control rule,” The Hill, 02/08/2012)

Voters In All 88 Counties Of Ohio Say No To Obamacare

A ballot measure that StateImpact Ohio (a creation of local public media and NPR) describes as “a referendum on a constitutional amendment…aimed at keeping the national health care reform law from taking [e]ffect” won in all 88 counties in Ohio. In 81 of the counties, it won by a margin of at least 20 percentage points. Statewide, it won by 32 points (66 to 34 percent). While Obama only wants to take credit, Kasich surprises

Many voters have become dissatisfied with their leaders going out of their way to seek credit for their success. In a way, that’s been one of the criticisms of those who find themselves in the Tea Party – a disappointment in politics as usual and the unabashed desire of politicians to obtain credit over delivering substance.

Well, if that’s the case, those folks can maybe be a little inspired by the Governor’s response to a reporter’s question about whether he should be upset about the President trying to take credit for Ohio’s emerging economic recovery:

In the four years prior to him coming into office, only Michigan and California lost more jobs than Ohio. Ohio was  nearly 400,000 down.

And now, since January of ’11, Ohio is 9th in the nation and tops in the Midwest in job growth.

We have to thank job creators first, but they are building and growing in Ohio in part because of a newfound confidence and stability at the state level. In dealing with the largest budget shortfall in state history, the Governor reformed and reduced government to make it more effective and efficient for taxpayers. And it shows. When S&P downgraded the United States, Italy, Greece and so on and so on, S&P decided to upgrade Ohio’s outlook from negative to stable. That means things are finally back on track – and that means more jobs

Meet Scott Rupert, Ohio U.S. senate candidate

CrScott Rupert

“We have once again come to a place in our fine Union’s history when it becomes necessary for a few patriots to lay aside their personal and financial interests, as well as their differences, to serve a cause far greater than will ever be realized in our lifetime. For all we know, God has provided us with all manner of instruction for such a time as this.” — Scott A. Rupert, independent Candidate, United States Senate for Ohio

I had the pleasure of being an attendee at Mr. Rupert’s announcement of his candidacy in Toledo, Ohio last Wednesday. He is running as an independent, and as he reminds everyone, “that is Independent, with a small i.”

Scott began his life in humble surroundings and is a hard worker as a truck driver. He feels this makes him ideally suited for his candidacy, being that he fully understands and comprehends the nature of the “common man” as he calls himself and how one must live within one’s means, unlike the federal government.

He is a proponent of grass-roots leadership, is against the stranglehold the federal government has on our lives and would like to see the United States divest herself from the United Nations. For his first time in front of the camera I felt he did a remarkable job, and all without a teleprompter. Barack Obama, please take note:

FYI the gentleman introducing Scott is Warren Edstrom, his campaign manager and also one of the co-founders of  The Voices of America a group dedicated to *taking our country back with precinct organizing.*

I gave Scott my “conservative test” which is based on knowledge of Congressional operations and the Constitution and he passed with flying colors. Below are some of his goals if elected:

  • Re-establish state sovereignty
  • Defund unconstitutional government agencies
  • Remove prohibitive regulations on manufacturing
  • Roll back destructive laws on small business
  • Lift restrictions on drilling for oil and natural gas
  • Replace the income tax with a consumption tax
  • Repeal Obamacare
  • Remove unfunded federal mandates
  • Restore national sovereignty

I have sat down with Mr. Rupert twice one-on-one and he bears further watching: smart, knowledgeable and I believe he is truly out for our country’s best interest and he has no aspirations of becoming a career politician.

You can find out more about Scott on his website.

He is on twitter Rupert for Ohio.
