18,460 dead people found on Ohio voter rolls

voting machineOhio’s chief elections official, Secretary of State Jon Husted states he and his officials have found 18,460 dead people on Ohio’s voter rolls. Husted took over the SoS position in January following Jennifer Brunner.

The “dead voters” were discovered after a cross-check with the Ohio Department of Health. In Lorain County 384 dead voters were removed from their rolls after a directive from Husted. None of the dead voters found in Lorain County died in that county however, 383 in other counties and one out of state. Paul Adams, Lorain County Elections Board Director stated under a  ruling by Brunner voters can only be removed when the Board of Health notifies them. Brunner’s edict came down after an angry ex-husband filled out paperwork stating his wife had “died” however she was very much alive.

Husted’s goal is to establish a centralized information database which can easily compare voter records with other state agencies such as the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Ohio Department of Corrections. Quarterly reports will then be issued to each county board of elections to inform them which voters are deceased.

ANALYSIS It’s certainly comforting knowing Husted has finally taken on this huge goal to purge these voters. Jennifer Brunner was one of the most corrupt secretaries of state on record, elected with the assistance of ACORN through their Project Vote arm under Karyn Gillette’s guidance.  She was also one of Georg Soros’ “Secretary of State Projects.” During Election 2008 Ohio was constantly in the national limelight with allegations ACORN registering voters up to 72 times. Brunner had the Ohio RNC constantly running from courthouse to courthouse, each one higher up, because of her questionable tactics and rulings during the election. A judge in Ohio even ruled a park bench was a residence. Brunner ended up going all the way to SCOTUS and they ruled in her favor.

Let’s hope Ohio, my state, doesn’t have the same notoriety in 2012.

Boehner: Ohio Court Decision Upholds the Law, Respects the Sanctity of Life

boehner1237924322 - CopyPress Release from John Boehner, Speaker-Elect (R-OH)

Dec 9, 2010

Washington- U.S. House Speaker-designate John Boehner (R-West Chester) today commended the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas for upholding an Ohio law requiring a 24-hour reflection period before a woman can obtain an abortion. The decision, issued yesterday, found that Planned Parenthood violated Ohio’s “informed consent” law in a 2004 case involving an abortion performed on a 14 year-old girl. Boehner issued the following statement:

“This is a critical victory in the fight to advance women’s health and defend the sanctity of unborn life. Women – especially minors – need to know about the risks of and alternatives to abortion. I commend the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas for its decision to uphold Ohio law, and I’ll continue to stand with all who seek to have a positive and meaningful impact in defending the right to life.”

NOTE: In 2008, Boehner and Ohio Reps. Steve Chabot, Bob Latta, Jim Jordan, and Jean Schmidt joined Americans United For Life in an amicus brief with the Ohio Supreme Court against Planned Parenthood in the notification case. An additional ruling determining whether Planned Parenthood broke the law in failing to notify the girl’s parents before the abortion will follow an expected February 7 trial.

Meet Peter J. Corrigan for OH US #10 against Kucinich

Since 1996 OH US #10 has been in the stranglehold of  US Rep. Dennis Kucinich. This district composes a wide area, Cleveland and areas west, south and east. Kucinich, a former mayor of Cleveland survived a recall vote after he nearly bankrupted the city. I will admit I am old enough to remember the Cuyahoga River catching fire because of pollution. And sorry, voters in District 10 as a fellow Ohioan I am going to go out on a limb and believe I can say this. But apparently there is still something in the drinking water of the Cuyahoga River. Whatever possessed you guys after the debacle in Cleveland to put this man in Congress?? Kucinich has ties to former Ohio Communist Party Leader Rick Nagin and endorsed Nagin in his Cleveland City Council run. Kucinich is a vice-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and this from their website:

Our Caucus members promote a strong, progressive agenda, what we call “The Progressive Promise–Fairness for All”.

According to Project Vote Smart he has a dismal conservative voting record and:

Representative Dennis J. Kucinich refused to tell citizens where he/she stands on any of the issues addressed in the 2010 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart, national media, and prominent political leaders.

Kucinich has a dismal lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, 9.77 out of 100 possible. And who can forget Kucinich telling us he was voting against the Healthcare bill until he received a ride on AirForce One and apparently got an offer he couldn’t refuse and changed his vote to a “yea.” Kucinich fundraises under the conduit of Dem on-line website ActBlue which is now proven to be funded by George Soros.

Peter Corrigan believes it’s well past due for a change in OH #10 and is running for Kucinich’s seat. Corrigan is a Harvard-educated businessman with extensive expertise in the manufacturing field, strategic planning and marketing and he is president of Prestolite/South America. He is a proponent of free enterprise and would like to see Congress cut spending and lower taxes so businesses can grow. His position on the Healthcare issue is the large number of insured should not have been sacrificed in an attempt to provide coverage for the small number of uninsured. This has already resulted in expenses the federal government cannot afford and a prediction that employers will rather pay the government-imposed penalty than provide coverage for their employees. Here is one of his videos:

On social issues Corrigan is pro-life, pro 2nd amendment and opposes amnesty. Corrigan has received the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s endorsement as well as the Firefighter’s endorsement. Even though this was not found on Corrigan’s website I was told via phone conversation with his campaign office Corrigan has also received the endorsement of Buckeye Firearms and Ohio Right to Life. Although it seems at this point to be an uphill battle for Corrigan he is relying on face-to-face campaigning, and the massive job loss in Kucinich’s district on his watch may provide Corrigan an advantage as well as a mobilization of the Tea Party groups in northern Ohio rallying for him.

According to Ohio.com Kucinich and Corrigan will face-off in a debate on Oct. 8 at the City Club in Cleveland.

You can find further info on Corrigan on his website.

Ohio Afro-American group advocating “protest” by withholding Ohio gubernatorial vote

Ohio Republican and Democratic leadership: are you listening???

This writer has run across an interesting website in Ohio, “BlackOut 2010.” From their homepage:

BlackOut2010.org are concerned citizens, business owners and community activists throughout the State of Ohio, whom are no longer willing to innocently and without value offer our votes up to the Democratic Party on all levels without a meaningful response. We are not prepared to register as Republicans, however, we will give the opposition an opportunity to hear our concerns and act on them.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Fred Harris, former Warren, Ohio safety services director at length about the movement. It boils down to one single focus: neither the Republican or Democratic leadership in the state of Ohio are listening to the needs and pleas of the Afro-American citizens in the state. Both Mahoning and Trumbull counties in northeast Ohio in particular have been plagued with massive unemployment which is imposing untold burdens on the communities and citizens. Mr. Harris stated to me Trumbull county had the highest job loss in one month of the whole nation. These areas have a large population of Afro-Americans who are desperate for work since the steel industry left the area years ago and people are struggling during these tough economic times to put food on their tables and make ends meet.

Afro-Americans are typically 85% Democrats and in this election year Mr. Harris states there is a “lethargy” about going to the polls for fears their votes will go unnoticed and their pleas for assistance will be unheard. A true constitutionalist, Mr. Harris believes the citizens’ most powerful tool is their “vote.” So for this election cycle he and his organization are traveling the state of Ohio advocating a “protest” not only by Afro-Americans, but by any dissatisfied citizens of the state, by withholding their gubernatorial vote only. Since the governor is the highest ranking elected official in any state the logic is this will send a clear message to state leadership in Ohio the status quo is untenable and needs to be changed quickly. Mr. Harris made it abundantly clear his movement is in no way advocating staying home and not going to the polls. On the contrary, he stated, every person in the state should be voting but it is only the gubernatorial vote which is being asked to be withheld.

I questioned Mr. Harris if he had been in contact with any Democratic or Republican leadership or candidates with regards to this “protest.” I was told both Chris Redfern, chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party and Governor Ted Strickland are aware of the organization’s stance and both declared to him this would harm President Obama in the election. However, Mr. Harris was adamant, speaking directly to me:

At this time this is not about President  Obama or any other candidate at the federal level. In 2012 we will address the issue at the federal level. However, my people are hurting and right now we need to focus on the needs of the Afro-Americans in the state of Ohio. And the only way that can be done is to get the attention of those in the state of Ohio who can help us whether it be the Democrats or the Republicans. The Tea Party movement has helped to make us not necessarily either Republicans, Democrats or Independents, but Americans. Therefore, whomever is elected as governor this election cycle, whether it be John Kasich or Governor Strickland, we will invite them to come to our communities to hold Town Halls where we will voice our concerns and needs. However, at this point we believe our only way to get the attention we deserve is by withholding our gubernatorial votes.

Mr. Harris told me he has also talked with Rob Portman, Ohio candidate for US Senate face to face and has addressed his concerns to Mr. Portman telling Mr. Portman “if you can help us, then we’ll talk to you.”

Mr. Harris and I also discussed House Bill 584 (Minority Set-Aside Legislation)

The purpose of the Bill was to ensure minority business participation in the bidding process relating to the contracts awarded by the State of Ohio. Specifically, the bill mandated the following:

  • Establish a minority development loan program;
  • Provide construction contract bonds for minority businesses unable to obtain them from private sources;
  • Set aside 5% of state construction contracts and 15% [emphasis mine] of procurement contracts for minority businesses;
  • Require 7 to 10 percent of every state construction contract be awarded to minority subcontractors and material-men; and
  • Require all state and local procurement contracts to contain anti-discrimination clauses, and to make an appropriation.

Mr. Harris tells me scorecards for this legislation have fallen well below the mandated 15% and overseers of this legislation need to make sure the percentages climb. Here is the MBE/EDGE Scorecard from the Ohio Dept. of Administrative Services, Equal Opportunity Division which does indicate most state agencies have fallen short of what is required under #584.  As one can see the majority of agencies are in the “yellow” caution area with only several in the “green” area” and many in the “red” area.

Also discussed was the Stimulus (ARRA) Law. Mr. Harris believes the $12 billion in funds sent to Ohio should not have gone directly to the governor’s office, where he/she can control where the money flows. Instead he believes the dollars should have gone to county commissions which could have better ascertained where the dollars were best spent.

Here’s an article from WFMJ.online in Warren Ohio about the organization.

Governor Strickland. John Kasich. Chris Redfern. Kevin Dewine (OH RNC) are you listening??

BlackOut 2010 hopes that you are.

Ohio treasurer Boyce under fire for hiring “crooked” bank to manage state pension programs

Kevin Boyce

Ohio state treasurer Kevin Boyce is under fire for recently hiring Boston’s State Street Corp. to manage portions of several of Ohio’s state pension programs. State Street is facing fraud allegations in California and Attorney General Jerry Brown has filed a lawsuit demanding $200 million in compensation for “raiding” state pension plans there. According to the New York Times Brown stated:

“State Street bankers committed unconscionable fraud by misappropriating millions of dollars that rightfully belonged to California’s public pension funds,” said Jerry Brown, the California attorney general. “This is just the latest example of how clever financial traders violate laws and rip off the public trust.”

Boyce was well aware of the fraud allegations as he hired State Street five months after California’s lawsuit was filed. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer California’s state treasurer Bill Lockyer went as far as calling State Street “crooks”:

“I’m just not sure that we ought to be doing business with them given that circumstance,” Lockyer said, according to a transcript of the Feb. 16 CalPERS board meeting. “But if we don’t have any choice…I guess we do business with crooks.”

Lockyer’s statement came after he was advised by staff members of CAIPers, one of the CA pension programs State Street was accused of defrauding, the bank’s contract needed to be renewed and there was no time to launch a bidding process for a replacement.

Boyce’s actions are suspicious as State Street’s lobbyist in Ohio, Noure Alo, is a friend of Boyce’s top deputy Amer Ahmad. It’s reported Ahmad once had a business relationship with Alo although Ahmad has denied his relationship with Alo had any role in securing State State as a pension manager. Double suspicions have arisen as Boyce also hired Alo’s wife Walaa Waeda to be an office assistant about a month earlier. What’s also interesting here is the position Alo’s wife was hired for was bid out only in Alo’s mosque and his wife was the only respondent.

When New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo decided to cut ties with Bank of New York-Mellon and sued a subsidiary

charging that it intentionally failed to inform clients, including pension plans, of risky investments with Bernard Madoff, the convicted architect of a massive Ponzi scheme. Workers for the subsidiary, Ivy Asset Management LLC, continued to collect fees while neglecting to warn its clients

Boyce had an entirely different reaction. On May 11, the very same day Cuomo filed the lawsuit, Boyce stated he had already moved $19 billion of assets out of Bank of New York-Mellon out of their control. Boyce continues to maintain the $32 billion of assets will be “safe” and will save the three Ohio pension programs; State Teacher’s Retirement System, the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, and the Ohio Police and Firemen Pension Fund, $7.3 million. Should any problems arise, by Ohio law taxpayers in the state would be required to bail out these pension funds. Ohio right now has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country so the prospect of taxpayers having to fill in any gaps would be met with extreme consternation.

According to this table STRS has $94 billion in unfunded liabilities, Ohio Police and Fire $15 billion unfunded and Ohio Public Employees $64 billion. Given the above, it is no wonder many of Ohio’s major newspapers are sniffing around demanding names of retirees and how much they receive. So far the pension programs have not obliged, stating it is private information not available to the public.

In an interesting development in July, although I can find no major newspapers reporting this, several Ohio blogs are stating Boyce’s campaign manager recently resigned. Boyce was appointed treasurer by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and is running for the post in November against GOPer Josh Mandel. The blogs cite growing concerns over ethics problems and Boyce’s “poor management” for the reason Marquez Brown resigned and is now working for the Ohio Democratic Party.

FYI as of the writing of this post the California lawsuit has not yet been resolved.
